Louisiana Street between 4th Street and Capitol Avenue will not be changed to a two-way street, as requested by e-Stem Charter High School. E-Stem had hoped to have the street changed by the time the high school goes back in session in the old Federal Reserve Building at 3rd and Louisiana on July 19.
Objections by owners of a parking deck on Louisiana, at 4th, put the kibosh on e-Stem's plan, but Steve Beck, director of Public Works, said engineers will work to find a way to relieve any traffic problems the one-way flow creates for the school.
The school had already built a foundation for the light pole and bought the pole, arm and light. Beck said the city will probably buy the fixtures from the school for use elsewhere, but the school is out the money it spent on the foundation.
