Truman Arnold's $10 million gift to Texas A&M

Truman Arnold, the Texarkana, Texas, petroluem marketer who's long been a player in Arkansas politics and government, has made a big gift on the Texas side of Stateline.

He and his wife Anita Monday announced a $10 million gift to the Texas A&M branch in Texarkana to underwrite scholarships. It was the school's largest contribution ever. It's the latest of several gifts the Arnolds have made the school, about to move to a new campus.

Note the school promises the lowest tuition of any college in Texas or Arkansas.

Recent contributions include the donation of 72 acres of land for University campus development, a $1.2 million dollar commitment for funding a Chair of the Department of Information Sciences and a $300,000 dollar commitment for funding the attainment and appointment of additional faculty required for opening a College of Engineering at A&M — Texarkana.

Both received an Honorary Doctorate of Leadership from Texas A&M University — Texarkana in 2007. Their legacy of support extends to schools, hospitals, the arts, civic and social causes throughout the Ark-La-Tex and the Nation.
