The state Supreme Court today rejected
the Arkansas Public Defender Commission's
appeal to block Circuit Judge Herb Wright's order that it must contribute to expenses in the defense of Abdulhakim Muhammad
, a suspect in the slaying of a serviceman outside a Little Rock military center. Muhammad has been ruled indigent, but he has a private attorney who has sought state help for expenses. The commission said it didn't have to help pay when a defendant had private counsel. The court said the statute clearly indicated otherwise.
