LINCOLN NEWS RELEASE
Little Rock - In two Lincoln campaign radio ads airing on Arkansas radio, President Bill Clinton praises U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln's record on jobs and the economy, saying "nobody's working harder to preserve our rural quality of life."
He also defends her voting record, which he said has come under attack from "both ends of the political spectrum," and said she "helped me get America's economy moving again."
"I'm extremely grateful for President Clinton's support in this campaign," Sen. Lincoln said. "We continue to work together on our mutual goal to improve rural economy."
President Clinton joined the Senator earlier this week at a Rural Economic Summit she hosted.
In the radio ads, the President states that Sen. Lincoln is using her Agriculture Committee chairmanship to "bring millions in new investment here." He said he supports her because she "always does what's best for Arkansas."
After weeks of attacks against her record in support of free trade, which has meant thousands of new jobs and economic opportunities for Arkansas producers, President Clinton defended Sen. Lincoln. "She knew it would open new markets for Arkansas rice and soybeans, and it did."
In the face of Bill Halter's repeated attacks that she voted to raise taxes on Social Security, the President set the record straight: "What she voted for was my '93 economic plan that gave our country years of balanced budgets and surpluses and record prosperity, including almost 23 million new jobs and an all-time high in family income."
... the ads, "That's Why" and "Real Record."
This is Bill Clinton, and I want to tell you why I support my friend Senator Blanche Lincoln for re-election. As a member of Congress, Blanche helped me to get America's economy moving again when I was President, casting critical votes that ended decades of deficit spending, led us to balanced budgets and record surpluses and, most important, helped create almost 23 million new jobs and record family incomes.
Now as Arkansas' first ever chairman of the Senate Agriculture committee, she's using her position to bring millions in new investment here. She saved thousands of Arkansas jobs from unfair competition, and she's fighting to get rid of tax breaks for companies that send jobs overseas. Nobody's working harder to preserve our rural way of life, and to bring new economic opportunities to small towns and rural areas especially hard hit by the recession.
That's why I'm asking you to support Blanche Lincoln. Because she always does what's best for Arkansas.
This is Bill Clinton. My friend Senator Blanche Lincoln is being criticized from both ends of the political spectrum. There was a TV ad criticizing her vote to ship jobs overseas. It was talking about NAFTA, which passed in my first term. Blanche voted for it because she knew it would open new markets for Arkansas rice and soy beans, and it did.
She's also been attacked for a voting to raise taxes on Social Security. What she voted for was my '93 economic plan that gave our country years of balanced budgets and surpluses and record prosperity, including almost 23 million new jobs and an all-time high in family income.
Now as chairman of the Senate Agriculture committee, she's led the way in cleaning up the excesses of the financial speculators, so average citizens can never be stuck with the bill again.
That's the real record, and why I hope you'll vote for Blanche Lincoln on May 18th. She's been good for Arkansas.
