Gilbert Baker has decided No Bailouts is his ticket to victory in the GOP Senate primary and he'll begin a bus tour tomorrow to deliver the message. What bailouts? For which banks? Which didn't deserve it? Which commercial borrower, perhaps even with a currently performing loan, deserved to drown? Baker isn't saying and won't . He knows that the dull-witted Republican voter likes the simple, binary sound of those words, "No bailout," and he'll yell them in a hayfield, from a bus, in a car, wherever a 'bagger or a Republican, but I repeat myself, may stand. Cynical stuff.
Baker has also sold Politico on the narrative. Soon enough, we shall see if it works. To Rep. John Boozman's credit, he's defending his vote to prop up major institutions. As you know, many are responding by staying in business, repaying loans, etc. Which was the idea.
