Steve Womack, Rogers mayor and Republican candidate for 3rd District Congress, boasts in a news release that he received endorsements from four NW Ark. newspapers — the Benton County Daily Record, the Northwest Arkansas Times, the Morning News of Springdale and the Morning News of Rogers. (He’s pro-business, editorial said.)

It would be closer to correct to say, however, that he received the singular endorsement of the jointly owned Stephens/Hussman regional newspaper operation, repeated in each of the zoned versions. Take heart, opponents. Newspaper endorsements are often a kiss of death.
