The Lincoln-Halter debate

Brian Chilson grabbed a clip of demonstrators before last night's debate of Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate (above) and debate photo below. Also in the in-box this morning:

* Lincoln spin:

In tonight's first Democratic primary debate, U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln showed she stands up for what she believes in and has a strong record of results for Arkansans-holding Wall Street accountable, voting for health care reform, fighting for Arkansas jobs, and putting the Agriculture Committee Chairmanship to work for Arkansas.

* Halter spin:

Tonight Bill Halter and Arkansas working families won the debate because Halter held Lincoln accountable for Washington bailout and failure to act while Washington ran our economy into the ground. During tonight’s debate Senator Lincoln also failed to commit to running a positive campaign.

The Halter camp also did some disputation of Lincoln statements.

* Republican candidate Gilbert Baker spins:

After seeing the Democratic candidates debate the issues, I’m even more confident my conservative message is what the people of Arkansas will support in November.  Sen. Lincoln said she’s proud of her vote for Obamacare, although it will ruin our economy and the quality of our healthcare.

* A front group for big business spins:

Unfortunately, Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter continues to refuse to tell Arkansans where he stands on the job-killing Employee ‘Forced’ Choice Act.  Tonight, he was asked a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ question and declined to say whether he supports eliminating the secret ballot and allowing government arbitrators to write binding contracts without the consent of the employee or employer,” said Robert Coon, state director of the Coalition for Arkansas Jobs (CAJ).

Negative advertising. Blogger praises Halter for taking down an attack site on Lincoln, notes Lincoln's non-response to a suggestion that she should do the same.

The candidates meet again today at an AP meeting.
