Halter is the brains of the bunch. TV angle emphasizes: he’s a shrimp.

Lincoln’s effective when she departs from programmed responses. Her Angel Flight outfit could be improved.

Halter dodged card check question. Lincoln’s agin it.

The third candidate is a crank. He doesn’t like Warshington. But he wants to go there.

7:25 p.m. — Questions haven’t been searching

Lincoln’s tight, sharp defense of health legislation is her highlight so far. Halter scores some points, though, on Lincoln’s changing position through the congressional debate. He nails her on distancing herself from public option and President Obama before white audiences and taking a different position in advertising on black radio. But she insists she joined with Obama on health legislation and her ringing endorsement surely will make a sound bite in November for a Republican, should she be the nominee.

I’d like to see a clip posted of the discussion of negative advertising. Both Lincoln and Halter complain, with justification, of smears by anonymously funded attack ads from “independent” groups. Both complain, with justification, of negative emphasis of opponent advertising. Lincoln, her moneybags full, disingenously alibis that she must be tough because she’s being outspent. Halter challenged her to drop the “Dollar Bill” ads and talk about issues. She smiled.

Don’t expect a change of tone any time soon.
