Sam Eifling at Arkansas Business has the low-down on the regional Edward R. Murrow Awards. KTHV, the local CBS affiliate won seven awards including best news series and best use of video. One takeaway from Eifling's account: the West Memphis Three case is still a big story even though those who had a role in putting the three boys behind bars, and on death row, would like it to just go away.
It was hard to miss the fact that KTHV won in the News Series and Use of Video categories for coverage of the West Memphis 3. Three - count 'em - three Murrows went to reports on the WM3 after new forensic evidence cast yet more doubt on the guilt of Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley Jr. and Jason Baldwin, all convicted in the 1993 murders of three young boys. KATV's win was in the Video Reporting: Hard News category for Heather Crawford's report on Echols, "WM3: Fight for Freedom."
