In response to a question by a Little Rock School Board member Tuesday night, two reports on moves from the LRSD to charter schools -- one by the district's research team and the other data by individual schools -- have been made available to the board.
In 2008, the district reported that 141 students formerly in district schools enrolled in charter schools. However, individual schools reported that 598 students withdrew to attend charters. Of the 301 elementary school students who left, 78 percent had tested proficient in literacy tests and 82 percent tested proficient in math. Of the 211 middle-schoolers, 50 percent tested proficient in literacy and 55 percent in math. There were no benchmark scores for the high-schoolers.
I haven't been able to get a call back from the district to explain what accounts for the difference in the numbers.
Here's the report.
