Police chase lands robbery suspect

A chase after the robbery of a Chenal Parkway convenience store early this morning ended with the arrest of a robbery suspect who became unresponsive, perhaps from ingesting drugs.

On Thursday, March 25, 2010 at approximately 01:57 hours Officers received a call to 16800 Chenal Parkway (Shell Superstop) in reference to an aggravated robbery just occurred.  Communications advised the black male suspect had brandished a weapon and fled the area in a white sedan style vehicle.  Officers on I-630 observed a white Pontiac Grand Am traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on I-630.  Officers caught up to the vehicle at I-630 and Fair Park and could see there was one black male occupant.  Officers advised communications they were behind a vehicle matching the description of the aggravated robbery suspect vehicle.  Officers followed the vehicle, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am with no license, until they exited at the Pine/Cedar exit ramp.  Officers followed the vehicle southbound on Cedar Street and then eastbound 20th Street to Maple waiting on additional back-up before stopping the vehicle. At 24th and Maple a second unit arrived and they attempted to stop the white vehicle.  The vehicle initially pulled over and then made a U-turn in the street going back northbound on Maple.  The suspect vehicle turned onto 23rd Street and then onto Oak Street.  The suspect vehicle then came to an abrupt stop at 23rd and Oak Street.  The driver of the vehicle exited the vehicle quickly in an attempt to flee on foot.  Officers quickly ran to the vehicle and were able to prevent him from fleeing. The subject was taken into custody without incident. The subject matched the physical description of the suspect who robbed the Shell Superstop.  Officers’ observed a black handgun, a large quantity of Newport cigarettes and found a large quantity of cash in the suspect’s pocket.  These items were positively identified as being taken during the aggravated robbery. The suspect became unresponsive to officers questions and due to the possibility that the suspect ingested narcotics; the suspect was transported to UAMS. The suspect was identified as Patrick Donley (B/M 01/09/75). He will be transported to the detective division once he is discharged from UAMS and charged with:  Aggravated Robbery (2 counts), Theft of Property (2 counts), Fleeing, Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons, Possession of an instrument of a Crime, Reckless Driving and Refusal to Submit to Arrest.
