The state Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission announced today that it had admonished two judges, including Pulaski Circuit Judge Barry Sims in a case referred by the state Supreme Court. Sharp County District Judge Mark Johnson was admonished for the dismissal of a DWI charge involving a relative.
Sims' case arose from his agreement to allow a rare legal procedure to improperly reduce the sentence of a witness in a bank robbery case. The Supreme Court also referred the prosecutor and public defender in that case to the Supreme Court Committee on Professional Conduct. Sims acknowledged the error and has agreed to receive further training to insure that he doesn't violate sentencing procedures again.
