Other duties have interfered with my blogging today and among my omissions was some comment on U.S. Rep. John Boozman's extravagant travel on the public teat, as detailed in the morning D-G. He even exceeded the globetrotting U.S. Rep. Mike Ross.
Expanding your horizon is one thing. But doing it on taxpayer money is another. And doing it while you bray about the evils of excessive government spending? Well, that makes you a BHD.
The Iconoclast has stepped in to the vacuum I left on the Boozman slurp, however. You really would like to know how John and his missus ran up $900 per day on undocumented expenses on a four-day jaunt to Germany. That's a lot of brew and wurst.
Sen. Gilbert Baker, a Boozman opponent, also takes note of Oompah Boozman:
When I am US Senator, I will be visiting places like England, Paris, and London, ARKANSAS to continue to be responsive to the people of this great state. Members of congress should not be spending tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars on lavish, international trips when people across the country are struggling to make ends meet.
And when Baker travels to England (Lonoke County), he'll be taking a blue tarp from Wal-Mart for shelter to remind voters of Boozman's bank bailout TARP vote. Baker has noted before that Boozman has spent $85,000 in taxpayer money since 2003 to visit five continents and a "dazzling 48 countries."
