John Mills, 59, of Cabot waived indictment in federal court today and pleaded guilty to aiding bank fraud by a check kiting scheme devised to cover up financial problems at the now-defunct Affiliated Foods. Mills was CEO of the once giant and prosperous grocery wholesaler. Sentencing will be later.
U.S. Attorney Jane Duke outlines the charge here. The news release identifies another employee who worked with Mills in the scheme. There is no mention of charges in addition to that filed against Mills. Asked about that, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney said, "The investigation is ongoing."
