Two lemurs die at Zoo

The Little Rock Zoo announces the death of two aged red ruffed lemurs, which apparently drowned in their exhibit.

The Little Rock Zoo is sad to report the loss of two red ruffed lemurs found dead on exhibit Friday afternoon, January 15.

The two lemurs were found floating in the moat that surrounds the exhibit by a Zoo staffer that afternoon.  Preliminary necropsy results released this afternoon show the two animals apparently died from drowning.

The two red ruffed lemurs were of advanced age at 22 and 24.  The average lifespan of a lemur in captivity is 19 years of age, according to current literature.

The Zoo has officially closed the lemur exhibit until further notice.
