Nolan Richardson, the former Razorback basketball coach, is the keynote speaker at 10 a.m. today at Philander Smith College as part of observances of Martin Luther King's birthday. The state King Commission also will be serving lunch to the needy at Philander Smith beginning at 11 a.m.

Ride the bus to get there. Central Arkansas Transit Authority rides are free today, in honor of the holiday.

Other events are scheduled today, though, for one reason or another, not mentioned by the King Commission.

Civil rights laywer John Walker speaks at noon today at the Clinton School.

The Arkansas branch of the NAACP also will hold its annual "marade" beginning at 10 a.m. at Thirty-third and Chester and proceeding to the Capitol for a rally.

The Central High School Historic site plans events for children beginning at 2:30 p.m., including a book reading and a film.

The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center is sponsoring a day of service projects.
