Benton County Judge David Bisbee, the former state senator, is in the middle of controversy.
He apparently hired his own company, Valley Homes, to do a $15,000 remodeling job for the county. The Republican prosecutor, Van Stone, has told the local newspaper that he will request a State Police investigation. A JP says he'll refer the issue to the state Contractors Licensing Board. Bisbee says bring it on, he's clean.
The secondary issue here -- maybe the primary issue -- is that Bisbee, on account of old state Senate politics, has been ringleader of the nominate-anybody-but-Gilbert-Baker Republican primary necktie party. A boodling county judge might not be the best character witness for the other candidates.
