The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette today announced a change in leadership.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Inc. announced Monday the appointment of Nat Lea as vice president and general manager for the 63 counties of Arkansas that receive editions of the newspaper printed in Little Rock.
Paul Smith will continue as president of the company, overseeing newspaper operations including the Northwest Arkansas edition that is printed in Lowell and other publications. Smith will relinquish his title of general manager.
Lea previously has served in various capacities with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s parent corporation, Wehco Media Inc., most recently as publisher of The Sentinel-Record in Hot Springs.
Smith who became president of Wehco newspapers in 2006, is about 65. He tells Arkansas Business that this is the beginning of evolutionary changes for the future.
UPDATE: Lea has a family connection. D-G publisher Walter Hussman is his uncle. Lea's mother and Hussman's wife Ben are sisters.
