Mark Darr to challenge Halter

Republican Mark Darr, who owns a pizza restaurant in Rogers, says he'd "met his fund-raising goal" and will make official his plans to run for lieutenant governor against incumbent Democrat Bill Halter. No report is yet on file to indicate how much of the $152,000 Darr reportedly has on hand came from his own pocket.

UPDATE: A spokesman for Darr said he loaned his campaign $150,000.

NEWS RELEASE

Mark Darr, who is exploring running for Arkansas Lieutenant Governor, is pleased to announce he has met his fundraising goal for the end of 2009 and has $152,000.00 cash on hand. As a result, Mark Darr is ending his exploratory campaign and is officially entering the race for Lieutenant Governor making him the only announced Republican candidate. Mark Darr released the following statement. “We are honored to have received the financial support of the many Arkansans who are unhappy with the current administration. We are prepared for a competitive campaign. Bill Halter’s agenda matches the views and values of Liberal California not Conservative Arkansas. We are not taking this campaign for granted and we know we can not do it with the help of conservative Arkansans.”
 
Mark Darr is a lifelong resident of Arkansas and is a graduate of Mansfield High School in Mansfield and Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. Mark, his wife Kim, and their two children reside in Springdale, Arkansas where they are active members of First Baptist Church of Springdale. Mark is a licensed insurance agent and owns Mad Pizza Company in Rogers.
