No arrests in Salvation Army slaying

Bill Lawson of Stephens Media provides coverage of yesterday's slaying of Salvation Army Maj. Philip Wise, 40, during an attempted robbery.

His story, and TV coverage, indicate there have been no arrests of the two young men who shot Wise in front of his three children and wife as he dropped off kettle donations at a Salvation Army facility in North Little Rock about 4:15 p.m. Christmas Eve.

The Salvation Army has scheduled a news conference to discuss the crime at 11 a.m. today, about the time it will doing its usual service of Christmas dinner at shelters for homeless.

From the Future of Newspapers Department: No coverage of this crime appeared in this morning's print Democrat-Gazette, though there was a long list there of roads closed yesterday that are now likely open because the rain has -- finally -- moved on. I presume the death will be on page one tomorrow. As Carrick noted, the story is on-line for subscribers. Last night, CNN had film coverage through its Channel 4 affiliate.
