How religious are we?

It's Arkansas, a place where a judge's ruling that a freethinkers' display must be allowed alongside a Nativity scene at the Capitol sparked an instant legislative protest. So these poll results might not be a surprise.

But a new poll released today by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life shows Arkansans to be very, very religious.  More than seven out of ten say that religion is "very important" to them, which ranks third in the U.S. behind Mississippi and Alabama.  Arkansas ranks fifth in terms of  "certainty of belief in God," coming in at 84 percent of the population.  Only 54 percent of the people in New Hampshire and Vermont, by contrast, believe in God.  Poll results also show Arkansas near the top of the list when it comes to attending church services weekly and frequency of prayer.
