The Senate passed the first procedural vote on the health bill early this morning, 60-40. Looks like it will pass. The party of No will continued its unanimous opposition to the expansion and improvement of American health care.
Krugman calls it a “seriously flawed” bill, but still a “huge step forward.”
That’s the spin. I find myself moving in that direction, particularly as I read the crazed litany of reflexive Republican response to every improvement, particularly expansion of coverage for lower-income people. It’s flawed so we should do nothing. They’ve proved over two years they want to do nothing. Many of them would repeal Medicare and existing Medicaid if given a chance.
By the way: Republicans are sure to blast all the hidden riders with specific gifts for individual senators. At the same time they decry this pork, they are certain to blast Sen. Blanche Lincoln for apparently not landing any. When your bottom line is always NO you can have it every which way.
