Details as of mid-afternoon are on the jump.

UPDATE: The names of the dead have been released.

FROM THE STATE POLICE'S BILL SADLER

At approximately 2:30 this morning (Tuesday, November 10th) Arkansas State Police Highway Patrol, Troop G was notified by Texarkana Police of a multi-vehicle crash and fire in the westbound lanes of I-30 at the 4.2 mile marker which is also the site of a highway construction zone.

State Troopers along with local law enforcement and emergency response teams initiated a shut-down of both the west and eastbound traffic lanes.

Four people were killed and two were injured as a result of the crash.  Two of the fatality victims were the driver and passenger of a commercial vehicle hauling newspaper inserts that crashed into the rear of a passenger vehicle.  The driver and passenger inside the second vehicle were also pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision caused a chain reaction of rear-in collisions involving three other vehicles.

One eastbound traffic lane was re-opened earlier today and by midday the second lane was open.  Westbound traffic on I-30 continues to be re-routed east of Texarkana at the 7 mile marker onto U.S. Highway 67.  The crash scene is not expected to be cleared and westbound traffic restored until later this afternoon.

Notification of next of kin is still underway.

The Arkansas State Police along with Arkansas Highway Police are conducting an investigation of the crash.

Further information will be provided once next of kin have been notified.  Please monitor http://www.asp.state.ar.us/fatal/index.php
