Five University of Arkansas basketball players have been suspended for violation of team rules.
The link takes you to a university news release on coach John Pelphrey's announcement.
Suspended indefinitely for "unrelated violations": Stefan Welsh and Courtney Fortson.
Suspended for two games: Freshman Glenn Bryant.
Suspended for six games: Junior Marcus Britt.
Suspended from the dress roster for the fall semester: Walk-on Nick Mason.
There's no mention of the reasons for the suspensions and there's currently no way to know if they are related to the recent fraternity house incident in which the local prosecutor decided not to file charges after a UA freshmen said she'd been sexually assaulted by several basketball players. The players she named said any sex acts that occurred were consensual. The girl has sought a special prosecutor to re-examine the case and one is expected to be appointed soon.
According to police reports, Britt, Bryant and Mason were among four players present at the fraternity house the night of the incident. Fortson sent a crude message on Twitter several days later that seemingly made a reference to the incident. Welsh was not named in any accounts of that evening.
Coach John Pelphrey had said earlier he would suspend at least one player for the event and "meaningful consequences" would be meted out to others, but he never named which players would be disciplined or for what.
