The Association of Arkansas Counties has alerted members that state Rep. Allen Kerr of Little Rock has filed a batch of proposals affecting the county lobby's constituency. (No, silly, not you. County officials.)
Among others, Kerr would end the two-for-one credit on years served in computing retirement benefits. He'd impose a one-year waiting period on the rehiring of a county employee who's taken retirement. He'd make it clear that the list of retired employees would be public information.
The county lobby, in the person of legislative director Jeff Sikes, says in encouraging an opposition lobbying effort: "Overall we believe this package to be detrimental to county government." Or at least it would be detrimental to perks of county officials.
