Obama and Fox at war

The Obama White House has decided to treat Fox News like a political enemy.

“We’re going to treat them the way we would treat an opponent,” said Anita Dunn, the White House communications director, in a telephone interview on Sunday. “As they are undertaking a war against Barack Obama and the White House, we don’t need to pretend that this is the way that legitimate news organizations behave.” Ms. Dunn made similar remarks in an interview on CNN.

I have a little experience in such things. This is a White House mistake. (I anxiously await, however, Fox commentator and former Gov. Mike Huckabee's endorsement of the White House deciding who is and who is not a "legitimate" news organization, since he believes in such tactics.) It won't make the situation better for Obama. Love them or hate them, Fox is a news gathering organization. It's entitled to the standard services due media who cover the White House, through whatever ideological prism they choose. Special interviews? Obama appearances on Fox shows? News tips? Of course not. But declare war on critics and play petty games with them? Stupid.
