The NY Times offers a feature
on a young man who entered a fraudulent bid for an oil-and-gas lease on federal lands
to prevent exploration on the land. He threw a big monkey wrench in Bush administration
hurry-up efforts to toss favors to the oil and gas industry as it headed for the exits. Now the young man faces a criminal trial at which he'll argue, most likely in vain, a "choice of evils" defense.
