Lottery director Ernie Passailaigue held a press conference this afternoon with executives from Scientific Games and Intralot to update everyone on how the lottery was functioning in its first day of sales.  The answer: swimmingly.  Passailaigue said the start-up had been smooth, especially compared to the start-up of the South Carolina Lottery which he said was "a little more traumatic."  Here's a rundown on some lottery numbers.

250,000 - Dollar amount of payouts as of 2:00 this afternoon.  Passailaigue said that number is "changing by the minute."  A Pine Bluff woman came to the Little Rock claim center to cash a $1,000 winning ticket earlier today, the largest one-time winner so far.

50-60 - Number of retailers who, for one reason or another, decided not to sell tickets after all.

700-800 - Number of calls received by Intralot concerning technical and other setbacks.  The company's regional director, Steve Beck, said most of the problems had to do with activation of the tickets and were resolved very quickly.

4 - Number of scratch games that will be added to the current line-up on Oct. 20.

120 - Number of technicians Intralot has on the ground to handle problems.  That number will shrink to around 37 during normal operations.

8,500 - Packets of tickets activated for sale by retail locations since midnight last night.  A total of 48,000 packets were distributed to the retailers in one day.

1 - Amount, in dollars, won by the Times staff after running out at lunch and purchasing a total of five tickets.
