The Capitol tunnel

An anonymous e-mail, purportedly from a state legislative staff member, argues for construction of the tunnel. That is, IF the legislature insists on going through with its plan to build new offices for members of the legislature. I can't vouch for its authenticity, but I thought the viewpoint interesting enough to pass along.

E-MAIL FROM "CAPITOL EMPLOYEE"

Bureau employees at the capitol believe it is [Sen. Steve] Faris behind the plan. He is the ringleader with us at least.

The tunnel is absolutely necessary for all the computer equipment, presentation equipment, handouts and coffee that are dragged into the meeting rooms. There is no way a committee staffer can lug the name plates, handouts and coffee to each meeting without the tunnel.  We all agree the move is stupid but if the stupid plan is going to happen, we need the tunnel to do our jobs.  The tunnel isn't so much for the legislators, it is for their support staff.

Your article mentioned that [House Speaker] Wills said the offices are pretty much ready. They are not, the House will require us to rebuild and it won't be partitions. Room 07 of the Capitol was re-done, kicking out bureau employees a couple of years ago, for the reps to have cubes. They are rarely used, if at all.

I really hope the public has an outcry against the moving of bureau employees just so that the reps can have their offices and the senators get new ones. Bureau employees need to be in the capitol.
