Remember the super collider?

Remember the Super Conducting Super Collider, which was to be a massive physics experiment on the plains of north Texas? The federal government put a couple of billion dollars in the project before it was shelved.

Arkansas trucking magnate J.B. Hunt was the lead investor in a group that bought the failed project for $6.5 million in 2006 to turn it into a huge data storage facility. But Hunt died and, with him, the drive for the project.

Wired magazine has a photo essay in its current issue that includes the picture above and a review of the saga. Hunt's partners are hoping to sell the property for $20 million.
