UPDATE: John Bass, the Springdale lawyer who represents the freshman woman who says she was raped in the fraternity house bedroom Aug. 27, has issued a statement reiterating her belief that a crime occurred. He questions the thoroughness of the investigation that resulted in the decision not to prosecute. He also has raised the issue of asking for a special prosecutor to review the case, in part because of by-marriage relationships between Washington Prosecutor John Threet and UA athletic hierarchy. Threet is married to a stepdaughter of former Athletic Director Frank Broyles (she’s a daughter of his current wife.) Athletic Department spokesman Kevin Trainor’s wife is a sister of Threet’s wife.
