Gov. Mike Beebe has appointed Doug Martin of Fayetteville to fill a vacant circuit judgeship that had been held by Judge Mike Mashburn. Mashburn had retired for health reasons in in 2007, but recuperated ran for office again. He announced in July that he'd formally retire Augu. 10 because of recent setbacks, including some erratic behavior that had prompted a review by the judicial discipline and disability committee. Martin will serve until a special election next year to fill the seat.
