An e-mail from a new business owner in Hillcrest is making the rounds (and I've since confirmed its authenticity.) The author must have missed the city news conference about the dropping local crime rate.
My name is Josh Blevins and I am the owner of The House (the new burger restaurant in the former Sufficient Grounds building). I've only been in Hillcrest a month and have had my building broken into twice, a power washer stolen from behind my building, furniture stolen from my patio, and last night my car was broken into while parked at the intersection of Palm and Hillcrest.
Is there much of a police presence in this area? I live just up the hill on Crestwood in The Heights and have only had my car broken into four times in three years there, which seems much more reasonable. An average of one crime every five days or so seems excessive.
If anybody finds a bunch of keys on an American flag key ring, they were stolen out of my car last night at the corner of Palm and Hillcrest. I'm a real estate developer in my other job and I have keys to about ten different buildings on there.
I know getting my keys back is probably a long shot, but a bunch of my neighbors on Crestwood had their cars broken into on Wednesday night and a good number of their belongings-- and a large piece of rebar--ended- up in my bushes. Maybe I'll be as lucky.
