Sad numbers here. The "birther" nonsense -- that Barack Obama was not born in the U.S. and thus is ineligible to be president -- has gotten little traction anywhere except among Republican members of Congress and the South. In Dixie, only 47 percent apparently believe that Obama is eligible to be president.
Would somebody please ask U.S. Rep. John Boozman if he believes Obama was born in the U.S.? If he surprises me and answers with a solid affirmative, unlike most of his Republican colleagues, you might also ask him what he thinks of the GOP nut squad that's dodging the question or out-and-out doubters. (Remember, since Obama's mother was a U.S. citizen there's no question about his citizenship. So there's no need to ask Mayor Womack to arrest the president should he happen to touch down in Benton County.)
