Are times changing or what?
Gov. Mike Beebe talks in his weekly address about a trade mission to Cuba the last week of this month.
Rice has been exported there for almost a decade now, and Cuba has become the sixth-biggest export market for American poultry.
There are now indications that these trade embargoes may soon be eased further or lifted completely. I have no knowledge of the specific politics or timing of any such decision, and that is not the purpose of my trip. I am going to Cuba to ensure that, if and when more agricultural trade is permitted, Arkansas will be in the best possible position to seize the opportunity to sell our products. Just this past week, the Cuban government unfroze hundreds of bank accounts, freeing-up more funds for international trade.
