Newspapers are going cheap these days -- sometimes for no more than the value of the real estate on which their buildings sit. If you're a low-debt, cash rich publisher with a gambler's nerve, this could be a time to buy.
So it is that Democrat-Gazette publisher Walter Hussman was spotted in Austin, Texas, kicking the tires on the Austin American-Statesman, Arkansas Business reports.
Back in March, it was reported that nobody topped $50 million in a bidding process for the big daily. The bids were based mostly on real estate value.
