Our Insider column this week reports news of the federal government's intention to move its Social Security office from the downtown federal building to a new building at Executive Center Drive and Bowman Road. Government says this is a "central location" near the city's growth area.

Is it near the people who have most Social Security business? A tipster who told us about this move thinks not. Don't worry, hon. They promise to get bus service to this high-dollar office park sooner or later.

PS -- The Little Rock office is one of two in Pulaski County. The other is in Sherwood. To the south, the closest office is in Pine Bluff. There is none in Saline County or Grant County.

UPDATE: An anonymous person supplied an interesting news release from the U.S. Conference of Mayors that bears a further look. It says that cities can sue the federal government over how the feds choose to meet space needs. This arose in an Albuquerque case. That city sued because an office selection process violated a federal executive order and regulations that says space needs in urban areas "shall give first consideration to centralized community business area and adjacet areas of similar character."

Hmmm. Mayor Stodola?
