Thanks to Pat for a link to a Palm Beach newspaper article that indicates Lu Hardin's history at the University of Central Arkansas is not a non-issue at Palm Beach Atlantic University, where he was hired as the new president.
School officials defend their decision and Hardin. But the article notes some of the happenings at UCA are being investigated by a prosecutor. Students, who've apparently been chatting on blogs quite a bit about the hire, suggest there's a higher standard than the letter of the law in official conduct.
While Hardin could be exonerated on the questionable actions outlined in the audit, some students and alumni say they likely would have landed the 57-year-old Hardin in PBA's accountability office for a review of the Christian school's strict "Community Values System."
"If you Google him there is all this controversy and the school really emphasizes appearances, you can get in trouble as a student for just the appearance of wrongdoing, " said Charles Browning, a 2007 PBA graduate. "They are trying to stand out as a Christian university and to have this going on isn't good for their image."
