More info needed here: A man was fatally shot when he ran from a contraband checkpoint at an Arkansas prison. Turns out the man was wanted for a parole violation, which I’m not sure is ground for use of deadly force even if the guard was aware of the man’s status. Unclear from early report if the checkpoint was inside the prison, or outside. The man was picking up his wife, who’d been dropped off for a prison visit with a relative.

UPDATE: More details. He was outside the prison. He tried to drive away when guards attempted to stop him, They reportedly had discovered he was wanted for failure to report to a parole officer. He drove wildly and his car hit the car of a prison official as he tried to drive away. He got “close” to officers. The fatal shot apparently was shot through the back window of the fleeing car.
