The Bentonville teacher who had sex with a male student the day he turned 18 has received five years’ supervised state probation and 120 days in the county jail.

Melissa Monroe, a married woman from Bella Vista, was sentenced to five years state supervised probation and 120 days in the Benton County Jail for second-degree sexual assault. The incident occurred on the man’s 18th birthday.

Benton County Circuit Judge David Clinger recognized the law that prohibits a teacher from having sex with a student, even when the student is an adult.
