LM Glasfibers, the new plant making blades for wind turbines in Little Rock, is laying off more than 20 percent of its workforce on account of a reduction in demand for the product.
Or, as they put it, "adjusting its capacity in Little Rock as a result of timetable delays in wind energy projects in North America."

is adjusting its capacity in Little Rock as a result of timetable delays in
wind energy projects in North America.
"We continue to see the timing of domestic wind projects being pushed back
due to the credit markets and world economic conditions. While the outlook
for the future of sustainable wind energy is very bright, the short-term
impact requires us to eliminate the weekend shift at our Little Rock Port
facility," said Randy Fox, Vice President General Manager, North America for
LM Glasfiber. "We are optimistic about an expected upswing in 2010 and
The Port facility will operate a 24/5 schedule meeting current customer
demand. The total number of job reductions in Little Rock is estimated to
be about 80, with the company still employing 300 in Arkansas. The
transition will begin in approximately 60 days.
"While it is never easy to say goodbye to good people, LM Glasfiber needs to
remain a competitive supplier to the wind industry and respond to changes in
the market in order to secure the future growth of our company worldwide, as
well as in Little Rock." Fox said. "Our Little Rock operation is key for
our North American operations and will be prepared to ramp up when growth
returns to the wind market."
