Gerard Matthews will have a report later. But, in the meanwhile, Gabe Holmstrom of the attorney general's office is doing an excellent job of live Twittering the Political Animals Club faceoff between Democratic Party Chair Todd Turner and Republican Chair Doyle ("Where there's a will there's a") Webb. Bill Simmons of D-G is moderating. Examples:
Bill Simmons just asked Kathy Webb to stand up introduce herself to Chairman Webb. Then he asked D. Webb to explain what he had been saying.
Turner: if Chairman Steele and the other Chairman, Rush Limbaugh, came to AR it would help them Dems a lot.
Webb: AR is trending to voting conservatively. Says each Dem congressman is vulnerable.
It appears as though Chairman Turner is getting texts throughout the forum. Note: "appears"
UPDATE II: Mariah Hatta of the Arkansas Democratic Party said Turner didn't have his iPhone with him at the session and received no messages during his appearance.
Update from Gerard re comments by Doyle Webb and Rep. Kathy Webb (no relation). If you recalled, we broke news that Webb was whipping up Republican audiences by talking about the lesbian in the House and possibility she could have a leadership role, a reason he said to elect Republicans.
Doyle Webb said he had never referred to Rep. Webb by name in speaking about her. (As if that made it OK.) Said she was a good legislator and a "fine Christian person." But said she advocated positions conservatives opposed -- adoption by unmarried couples, specifically. He said he had no issue with her "personal lifestyle." As if it's a choice.
Rep. Webb said was sorry the issue had come up and looked forward still to meeting with the GOP chair.
Gerard says Doyle Webb also said there are Republicans as yet unnamed who might enter the U.S. Senate race and he took issue with a recent report that former White House hatchet man Tim Griffin was definitely out of the race. On the latter, let us hope Webb is right.
