There was a healthy dose of Arkansas-related coverage in "60 Minutes'" look last night. The Nucor operation at Blytheville was the on-camera representative of the troubled U.S. steel industry, a victim of the credit crunch and foreign competition.
Amazingly, Nucor has laid off no workers. But hours have been reduced substantially (50 percent cuts for workers making more than $80,0000 a year) and workers are hoping for relief from the federal stimulus package. Good film, including Leslie Stahl unnerved at one point by the fiery process at Nucor.
