On the business front

Talk Business is reporting that Acxiom's fourth quarter numbers were up from one year ago.  The company's net income of $22.5 million beats last year's mark of a $58.3 million loss.  The company will hold a press conference later in the day to talk about the results.  We reported almost one week ago that Acxiom was considering a one-week mandatory furlough program to cut costs.  A company spokesperson said Acxiom was looking at "creative ways to tighten our belt."

In other business news, Arkansas Business reports that Verizon will sell 4.3 million access lines, 2.2 million long-distance lines, and 1 million high-speed data customers to Frontier Communications for approximately $8.6 billion.  These lines include residential customers and small businesses in mostly rural areas spread over 14 states.  The deal will result in Verizon owning nearly 68 percent of Frontier.

Also from AB, local businesses are preparing to take a hit as the Pilgrim's Pride plant in El Dorado shuts down.
