So a real estate appraiser says the highest and best use of city park land -- Ray Winder field -- is as medical buildings. Using that logic, all of the Little Rock Zoo is a waste of land, isn't it?
City Director Brad Cazort says in this a.m.'s story in the Dem-Gaz about the new appraisal of the land (value $1.605 million) that the land should be used for what's in the best interest of the city. Gotta agree with him there. If the city had a big pot of park money already, there'd be no question how that land, the only place for the Zoo to expand without requiring people to make a trip over the interstate, would be used.
Peripheral to the whole debate over parkland: Little Rock is tempted to sell Ray Winder to UAMS so it would have a pot of money to remake War Memorial Park. But if the city takes care of War Memorial the way residents say it's keeping up Boyle Park -- well, then, what's the use?
