Say it ain't so. People either love or hate Manny Ramirez. I'm in the love category. Reports are saying Manny tested positive for performance enhancing drugs. He'll be suspended for the next 50 games, which will cost him about one third of his $25 million salary. Ramirez says he tested positive, not for steroids, but for medication prescribed to him by a doctor.
“Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy,” Ramirez said. “Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now. I do want to say one other thing; I’ve taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons.”
Read more from the NYT. If this was a prescription drug, is there not some way to disclose the use of it or get some sort of clearance from MLB? I'm just sick of hearing about baseball players on the roids.
CORRECTION: The original post said Ramirez admitted to steroid use between 2001-2003. That was not Manny, but Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees.
