No help for teachers

The Joint Budget Committee today gave short shrift to school teachers, who face the same rising costs of health insurance as everyone else but get far less help from the state than other public employees on premium costs, observers report.

HB 1413 to put $25 million into teacher insurance failed on a roll call that saw most representatives on Joint Budget in support and most senators in opposition. No motion was made on a second bill to put $11 million into support of insurance costs.
