In-state tuition bill fails

It's up for debate in the Senate. Fox 16's David Goins is twittering the blow-by-blow. Sen. Sue Madison says families of these Arkansas high school graduates pay taxes and their kids deserve to be educated with the same charges as other Arkansas high school graduates.

Opponents: Jerry Taylor and Denny Altes. Nuff said.

Randy Laverty admitted term limits (he's done after this term) made it easier for him to support the bill. There you have the Arkansas legislature in a nutshell. Do right, maybe. But first do no harm to thyself politically.

UPDATE: The bill failed, 13-21. They have expunged the vote and could make another run at it, though it's not likely.

The honor roll of aye votes: Steve Bryles, John Paul Capps, Joyce Elliott, Gene and Jimmy Jeffress, Randy Laverty, Jim Luker, Sue Madison, Percy Malone, Mary Anne Salmon, Tracy Steele, Hank Wilkins and Ed Wilkinson. Jack Crumbly didn't vote.
