The bill to allow guns in church is due up in Senate committe again tomorrow. A significant amendment has been filed.

Guns would be allowed in church only if carried by concealed weapon permit holders specifically authorized by a church.

Another gun note: The bill to close the list of concealed weapon permits was on the agenda in Senate Judiciary Committee today, but didn't come up.

On that subject: Here's an interesting document. It's the most recent annual report, from 2006, in Texas, on criminal convictions against concealed handgun permit holders in Texas. There were 140 in 2006, from assault to murder. Arkansas currently doesn't have a database matchup with its permit list and the Arkansa Crime Information Center to produce such a report (or readily identify convictions of permit holders when they occur). In theory, when felony convictions occur, arresting agencies forward fingerprint files that are entered into the record and received by State Police for matching against the permit list. Some agencies are better than others about submission of  those records. As mentioned previously, the state receives no similar data from federal agencies.
