More signs of the struggling newspaper world. On the heels of recent layoffs and other cost cuts, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette is instituting what is effectively a 5 percent payroll cut for its news staff. It will be in the form of one day of mandatory furlough, without pay, every 20 work days.
Deputy Editor Frank Fellone said the move would likely be a relief to newsroom staff as it would “spread the pain out to everybody. And spreading the pain is always a good thing.”
